EDITOR'S NOTE: Patty Rodriguez was the first friend I made at Colegio Inglés and is a very talented artist. Her most recent work in the galleries is "Stencilografia." With her collaborative partner and beau Erick, they are Patrick Collective.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Chipinque Park is on the northern face of the Sierra Madre mountain range that looks over San Pedro Garza Garcia and Monterrey. You have the choice to drive 5 miles up to the "maseta", (top look-out view), or park and hike up.
EDITOR'S NOTE: This was Rory's first time photographing me with the Canon. He caught on fast, and is well on his way to being a fellow picture-snapper in the Hernandez house...which means this photographer gets to be in front of the camera a little more often.
EDITOR'S NOTE: San Pedro is where Colegio Inglés is located, and where most American families reside. Rodrigo and I technically live in actual Monterrey, close to downtown. It's a quick 8 minute drive over the hill and we're in San Pedro. And boy, can you see the difference.
Meet Eugenio, who is celebrating his first year of life this Saturday. The Abarcas are new friends to Rodrigo and I. Oscar was our former marriage counselor, and Chantelle also works at Colegio Inglés at the Lower Elementary campus. It was the hottest day of the week, at 98 degrees. I was overdressed and not prepared for heat and mosquitos; in black dress pants and heels. Eugenio was a trooper and about every 10 frames would look directly at the lens and just hold a pose. Mom and Dad sang his favorite songs, shook keys, played tickle monster all to help me grab that adorable smile. I had a little epiphany when I got the whole family together under the tree, as I was saying behind the camera "Eugenio...Eugenio! Right here buddy! Right here!" simultaneously jingly car keys...this is why classy photographers have assistants. Feliz Cumpleaños Eugenio!
