Work Ready

EDITOR'S NOTE: In case you were curious, I didn't study photography in my bachelors either. I majored in Communication, which led me down a media emphasis path, and minored in Spanish. I did my bachelors in 3 years. And Full Sail can get me in and out in 1.

Recruit

EDITOR'S NOTE: During this half of the school year, my digital photography club will start doing Photoshop editing. In an attempt to recruit more students to maintain a minimum club membership head count...thanks spring sports...I'm hanging up these bad boys in every 7th and 8th grade homeroom tomorrow morning.

Wanna join? See you at the cafeteria tables : )

Flag-Faced

Last week I told you about my 17 Advanced Photoshop students who are about to deck the walls of Colegio Inglés for the United Nations simulation. They were challenged to design 24x36in flag-faced posters, for the country they are representing in the debates. I spent the weekend making an overly detailed PDF tutorial with a screenshot for every single button or menu they would need to press. Some students rose to the occasion, and took me up on the offer of 10 extra credit points if you get it printed in large format. For the others, I am designing a 12 foot flag-faced banner that will be on display during the conference. You can bet you'll see a shot of that!

And some of the best turned in...

EDITOR'S NOTE: If you'd like a whirl at the Flag Face tutorial send me an email at andreahernandez87@gmail.com
PS. You know what makes an awkward flag face? Japan.

Work Ready

EDITOR'S NOTE: All week I've been that girl in her car with the visor mirror down applying mascara at a red light. Yeah, I was her.

Deck the Walls

Just yesterday, I was tilting my head with 9th grade Language Arts teacher Andria Phesia, glancing at her colorful, yet slightly bare bulletin board. It was a missing a wow factor, a warm display that said this was a classroom for writers, readers, thinkers, and dreamers. We brainstormed ordering posters online, or printing off portraits of classic English literature authors. She said, "I wish you could just come in my room and Boom! James Joyce!" My wheels started turning, but it wasn't until this morning that I told her I could create her vision for her. We giddily drew squares on paper, planning where the posters could go, and what size they should be. She gave me names and quotes and I went to work.

EDITOR'S NOTE: It took 3 hours to design all 6. I did a rough draft run-through with a scroll banner, the selected picture, and text. Then the real fun began with montaging textures and colors.  I wanted each poster to have a classical meets grunge feel, with vintage color filters. My personal favorite is MLK, what's yours?

The Boyfriend Sweater

Music is a direct inspiration to almost every conceptual photoshoot I do. I invite you to listen to the following track for a more enhanced visual experience...
(and to feel like you are inside an American Eagle Outfitters store.)

EDITOR'S NOTE: I had the privilege of borrowing a Canon 5D Mark ii for this shoot, the crown jewel of Canon Digital SLRs. My jaw dropped and my eyes lit up like Christmas when I saw the first shot on its 3 inch LCD screen. One time I got to fly in first class. I never knew how much leg room you could have on a plane, how comfortable a chair could feel, and the celeb treatment you receive. Going back to coach sucked...It's kinda like that.

17

EDITOR'S NOTE: In less than a month, Colegio Inglés will transform into a United Nations simulation for 3 days. It is the event of the school year, and you better believe Advanced Photoshop students will have work on display...or in this case, their faces. Can't wait to show you what we are brewin' up!

That Caribbean

EDITOR'S NOTE: Rodrigo and I stayed in Playa del Carmen, which is about 40 minutes away from Cancun. It used to be more virgin, but has now become the trendy shopping and clubbing scene. In the future, I would like to stay in Tulum. Just when you thought the Caribbean couldn't get bluer, Tulum takes your breath away. It felt quiet and peaceful, how a real retreat should.

Work Ready

EDITOR'S NOTE: I shot WorkReady on my own this week with tripod and self timer and lots of running...wasn't so into that. Are you into my planned-candid laughing and leaping though?
Outfit Pinspiration. We had the same tank top, I had to!

American Pie

While making changes to 3rd quarter Advanced Photoshop curriculum, I got lost in YouTube tutorials, and stumbled across something that kept me busy all morning.

What text did I use you ask? The title didn't give it away?

I Had To...

EDITOR'S NOTE: Yes, I am a Photoshop Junkie, and yes of course this is hilarious to me. People will never want to stop seeing themselves in a perfected state, and I'm only learning more and more tricks! One day we'll all have a laugh and I'll show you MY before pictures!

Gossip Girls

EDITOR'S NOTE: Lisette and I have been friends for more than 7 years now, and Skype every other week. The "Gossip Girls" title came from me calling her cape "so Gossip Girl," even though I had never seen the show. Josh named the images folder that and it just stuck.
