The Print Collections

It's here! It's here! I've opened the DoublClik Print Shop on Etsy. It's been 3 months in the making and I am rolling out a red carpet to show you what is lined up for "Doublclikers." (It's a house hold name. Get involved...) Remember in January when I made classroom posters for my teacher friend, Andria? Based on comments and teachers' feedback, I added a few more to the educational rat pack; like a Psychadellic Poe and hopefully not-too-freaky-Socrates to grace more walls of more classrooms. And this is just the beginning, Hemingway, Plato, Mary Shelley, Ghandi, JK Rowling, and Steinbeck are in the works. (Which means they're written on a sticky on my desk.)

Someone you have in mind whose words you'd love to display? Einstein was just designed Friday and delivered Saturday by special request and at no extra cost. Speak up, let's make it happen!

When I moved to Mexico 2 and a half years ago, a friend told me to take pictures. I had a second rate camera, but tried to best capture everything I was seeing. The majority of the pictures in this collection are from a trip to Zacatecas, Zacatecas in 2010. I had my Canon Rebel then, and they are still some of my favorite splashes of color in the files. This collection will also be extended within the next month. Next week I am taking an epic trip to Mexico City where my parents will meet my in-laws for the first time. (It'll be 5 years without meeting!) We are taking an over night trip to San Miguel de Allende. A picturesque village called "The Heart of Mexico." Talavera pottery, cobblestone streets, artisan markets, old cathedrals, and marriachi bands to ring in the sunset!

Yummy Sunny

I recently stumbled across the photography site of Blake Jackson, one of the fabulous people that were in my group at Photoshop World Vegas. He had a 3 minute video tutorial on how to get this look with any picture, taken at any time of day.
Are you kidding, of course I have his tutorial for you:

EDITOR'S NOTE: Camera Raw is an Adobe Bridge plug-in that lets you do quick adjustments to your image like light and color balance fixes amongst many things. If you don't have it, just go straight to Photoshop.

The Club

EDITOR'S NOTE: Students from different grades threw wishes into the hole before a tree was planted. This was a special moment the administration did not want a camera to miss, and the girls did not disappoint! Here is a slideshow of their best shots, that was just put on the school's website:

Now You See Me...Now You See More

3rd quarter Advanced Photoshop is coming to a close which means it was time to dish out a final project to my rowdiest, but most talented group of the year. Some of these faces may look familiar, from the Flag Face project that adorned school walls in February. Layer masking is where I finish off the curriculum so I knew I wanted to build the photoshop around that concept. I had seen mind boggling self portraits that are done through masking, and knew they'd be up for the challenge. I mean they'd have to be for a final project worth 40% of their grade right?
So I tried it out first, to see if it this was challenging enough for a final project, but practical for 9th grade photoshoppers too. I set up my my speedlite and umbrella in the living room and worked a self timer on tripod prancing around trying different poses.

No tutorial was made. They were told how to do the photo taking set-up and brought their images Monday to class. They had an hour to put together their design, and I was floored by what they had come up with. The best in class:

EDITOR'S NOTE: This is a process of taking multiple images and using layer masks to blend them together. The key is keeping your camera still on tripod or a steady friend's hand as you move around for the individual shots. How awesome is Erika's playhouse? Or better yet the views these students call their backyard.

Vegas Characters

EDITOR'S NOTE: My work sponsored a trip to Photoshop World Conference last September in Las Vegas. It is the largest digital photography conference in the world, and is a non-stop adrenaline rush for any photographer. The sexiest city full of over the top beautiful people and attractions, and the best photo instructors in the world. Oh yeah, and winning in Vegas was just the cherry on top!
