EDITOR'S NOTE: A little over a year ago, I won an International Inspirational Video Contest for the Mormon church. It was an awesome and growing experience to share Brooke's story with the world, and now I want to share it with you. (Ya know, in case you weren't already impressed enough.)

At the Neighbor's

My sister, Julie, awe-inspiring interior design blogger and DIY enthusiast--invited me to guest post over at "her place" today, while she is out for the week running a girl's camp somewhere in the hills of Utah. Needless to say, I took the opportunity of being featured on her wildly successful blog and ran with it! I knew I had to keep her readers happy and somehow intertwine DoublClik into something relevant for a home how-to blog. At first I thought, I can show them how to test paint colors on walls through Photoshop. *...crickets.* With little time left to get the HTML over to her, I started looking through files I already had. And then it clicked. I saw all the fabulous houses I have had the privilege of shooting in scrolling before my eyes! *sigh* Getting the idea is the hardest part. In 2 hours I had it laid out, and it went live today.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Julie makes lamp shades from dying fabric in her kitchen sink...and does wall-sized chalkboard drawings...and makes light fixtures out of yarn...and knows how to tastefully paint pillows. She will blow your mind.

Andrea for Fernweh

Untitled

I found Fernweh Online Magazine about a month ago. I was intrigued by their minty titles, picturesque layouts, and that they wrote about whatever was trendy, sweet, and perfect. Their posts were delicious. The "staff" comprises of 4 go-getter girls who are all between the ages of 17-21. They are travelers, artists, designers, photographers, and writers. It's like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but so much cooler. I noticed several reader and guest posts on the blog, and inquired about writing for the photography portion of the site. They asked for a sample of writing and a few pictures to be reviewed. I just love being "reviewed." 2 weeks later I was given the green light and I curated a post of my favorite story teller editorials. (Really, did you expect anything else?) It went live last Saturday and I was happy for the opportunity. And the comments. And the exposure.

Without further ado!

An Afternoon with the Princesses

Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled EDITOR'S NOTE: Cecy & Ana Paula's moms (who are sisters) are both 5th grade teachers at the school I work at. They have worked on the same floor together for a few years now. Their daughters are both in the 3rd grade at the other campus. Now that's family.

Teaser

EDITOR'S NOTE: I squealed this morning as I walked in my office and saw a huge brown paper package from Documounts sitting on my desk. Crisp, pre-cut, 11x14 & 8x10 black mattes had arrived from the states and I could now begin putting together the gallery of the best student work I have been setting aside all school year. Can't wait to show you what it all looks like behind glass! ( But you better believe some of these made the cut )

Cut That Out

Colegio Inglés has an Art & Music twice every school year. Parents come in during school hours and meet their kids in the art studio to admire tape sculptures and cotton stuffed mini monsters. They go next door to the music room and listen to familiar riffs of the White Stripes, Train, and ACDC.
(My office is right above the music room and I hear that same drum beat of "Seven Nation Army" every. day.)
And every year I design the invitation to email to parents and teachers. I take my 640x500 pixel space seriously and love to scheme a theme before I start. When I got the call to design it today, my mind jumped to the latest Pinspiration on my design board:

My mind then narrows the concept down to: B&W, Cut-out, Teal. And, voila!

You know what takes the longest part? Those little calendars, times, and groups. Aligning and font choice and coherence and squeezing. Lots of that.
*Cue highlight reel*

EDITOR'S NOTE: I stared at the screen for a good 5 minutes deciding on whether to put in an ampersand this year or not. The camera strap was dominating the space and I liked it!
...Because that's what designers do, we contemplate ampersands.

BTS | A Man's World

A DoublClik first! Go behind-the-scenes with me on the "A Man's World" editorial shot last month in Mexico City at Hotel La Casona. The set-up, the before and afters, the posing, the Spanish! It's all here!

EDITOR'S NOTE: Talia Solis is 23 years old. (I know! Right?) She does odd and end modeling jobs and is also a daytime TV personality a couple times a week on Televisa. She is good friends with Monica Ruiz, and had been following my work for some time before we decided to get together and collaborate as model and photographer.

The Pupil

EDITOR'S NOTE: My best friend bought me this dress from the clearance rack when I was flat broke between jobs. My sister took my pictures in her bedroom and I edited them to black and white. I didn't feel broke anymore.

Sneak Peek BTS

When I asked Rory to film, I had the whole BTS panning out in my head. A Man's World would be the first behind-the-scenes look into a DoublClik photoshoot. Now don't get me wrong, I have done promos for editorials before: (go crazy)

But to show how I direct a model, pick locations and stand-ins (like a violinist) on a whim, and how a photo evolves in DoublClik style...why that's what BTS vids are for! So I buckled down this weekend and edited for 2 days, went bridesmaid shopping while it uploaded to YouTube for 2 hours, and watched it bright eyed on my "Big Mac" screen. Then my jaw drop and I did an epic face palm. Somehow, somewhere, in an invisible track in the land of editing hell, the audio got mixed up. So sometimes it looks like a silent film, and sometimes it looks like a cheap dub. I'm back to the drawing board tonight, but the least I can do is leave you with some screenshots. ...Because they're just like the real video. Just scroll really fast...

EDITOR'S NOTE: Because my Mac needs more memory before running proficiently on Final Cut, I had to resort to quick iMovie editing. Anyone ever run into audio shifting during export?......anyone.......
